When life is moving quickly, it’s easy to put off thinking about the future and any thoughts of planning around money and finances. We know what we have, where to find it and what needs attention but life doesn’t always go to plan.
Things can change. In an instant. A temporary or critical illness, the onset of a long-term condition, or the loss of someone close can turn your world upside down.
When that happens, the last thing you want to be doing is searching for answers. That’s why Bank of Ireland has created the Extra Help Centre, a dedicated online resource designed to help customers, families, and carers find and understand the support available to help them with their banking when circumstances change.
Whether you need to set up a Power of Attorney or want support following a bereavement, Bank of Ireland is here with the right information and guidance, every step of the way.
Planning ahead
There may come a time when you want or need someone you trust to help manage your finances. Having the right things in place early can bring real peace of mind, not just for you, but for your family, close friends and carers too.
Bank of Ireland’s Extra Help Centre can help you understand the options available and the right type of third party authority for your situation, whether that’s a temporary arrangement or something more permanent.
A third party mandate enables you to give a trusted person, such as a family member or a close friend, temporary access (typically no longer than 12 months) to manage your everyday banking. It is commonly used for short-term situations where you need assistance with your accounts, such as during an illness or hospital stays.
A Power of Attorney, also referred to as POA, is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone you trust (called an attorney) to act on your behalf. This can include looking after your Bank of Ireland mortgage, savings and current accounts, and paying bills or managing other financial matters.
Bank of Ireland’s team can talk you through the different options available, depending on your situation and the level of support you need, whether that’s for yourself or someone you’re caring for.
Supporting you through loss and bereavement
Losing someone close to you is devastating. At a time when grief can feel overwhelming, dealing with financial and legal matters shouldn’t add to your burden. The Bank’s Extra Help Centre offers a single place to find clear information and guidance on the steps you may need to consider or take. From notifying the Bank to closing or amending accounts, it helps you understand what needs to happen next.
If you need further support, we’re here to ensure you’re guided with care and understanding at every stage.
