Bank of Ireland UK has carried out training with customer-facing employees to ensure all branches across Northern Ireland are now ‘JAM Card Friendly’.

The JAM Card is a tool for people with a learning disability, autism or communication barrier to explain to local businesses and service providers that they need ‘Just A Minute’ in an easy, discreet manner. Developed by the Belfast-based social enterprise NOW Group, users can avail of the free card or app.

The bank estimates the service will improve the customer service experience of thousands of customers.

William Thompson, Head of Consumer Banking NI, Bank of Ireland UK, said: “I’m delighted to announce our new JAM Card friendly status. Our purpose as a bank is to help customers, colleagues and communities to thrive so the JAM Card is a great way for us to ensure we can provide all of our customers with the same excellent service. The JAM Card is a very simple but very powerful initiative and we’re delighted to support it across our branch network.”

Leeann Kelly, NOW Group, added: “We would like to thank Bank of Ireland for taking part in JAM Card training. Banking is an essential part of every-day life for people of all abilities. Being able to use the JAM Card as the bank’s branches across Northern Ireland will be a real benefit for JAM Card users. We work with a variety of organisations and businesses so we’re delighted to add Bank of Ireland to the list of local companies committed to making banking and other services more accessible to everyone.”
