Bank of Ireland UK chief executive to retire in 2019

9 August 2018

After a long and successful career in Bank of Ireland spanning over 30 years, Des Crowley will retire in 2019.

Over his career Des has held many senior roles within the Bank. A member of the Group Executive Committee (GEC) since 2000, Des has served as Chief Executive of Bank of Ireland UK since April 2012. He is also a Director of Post Office Financial Services and First Rate Exchange Services, our joint ventures with the UK Post Office. In these roles, Des has managed the Bank’s long standing and important partnership with the Post Office, and expanded the business with a new AA partnership.

Previously, Des has held the position of Chief Executive of Retail Ireland and Chief Executive of UK Financial Services. He also serves as a Director of New Ireland Assurance Company plc.

Pending his retirement next year, Des will continue in his role as a member of the GEC leading the implementation of our strategic agenda in the UK. Given the importance of the UK CEO role, an internal and external selection process will now commence.

Francesca McDonagh, Bank of Ireland Group CEO said: “On behalf of the Group, I would like to thank Des for his exceptional contribution, dedication and professionalism and I look forward to continuing to work closely with him in the period ahead.”
